The snow storm on Thursday deemed the perfect opportunity for some childhood fun: making a snow fort. In the woods in our backyard, there is a large rock we used to climb. It seemed to be a good location for the shelter. There is a large split in the rock that could fit a person, and it seemed to be a good place to start. There's even a small ledge someone could comfortably sit on. I cleared it best I could of snow.
With some help from my brother, I found some fallen branches that I could lay across the gap of the split in the rock. Then, I put a tarp over the branches, tucking in the corners under the branches and covering the edges with snow to hold it down.
And that was that! The humble fort, although a little on the smaller side and a little shabby, provided enough space for a person to wait out the elements. It was especially protective from the wind. I had a lot of fun making the fort and would do it again.
