In order to make a safe, dry, comfortable, and warm place for shelter, I first decided to pick a spot that received the most sun so that during the day, there could be a greenhouse effect inside the fort so that it could heat up. After that, I made the fort inside a large pile of snow so that it would serve as a buffer from dangerous things like animals and cars.
First, I carved out the hole for the shelter.
Then I made a shelf inside the shelter to keep food and other necessities safe.
Then I secured a piece of plastic over the fort with large chunks of ice to ensure the space stayed closed off and the wind would not take the tarp.
Now I can get in my fort.
Ahhh... so nice and warm and cozy.
